Outreachy is seeking open source communities to mentor interns for our 
May 2026 cohort!

The call for Outreachy mentoring organizations is finally open! Please

Feb. 26, 2026 at 4pm UTC - deadline for FOSS communities to sign up to 
participate as a mentoring organization
March 7, 2026 at 4pm UTC - deadline for mentors to submit project 
descriptions

What is Outreachy?
--

Outreachy is a paid, remote internship program. Outreachy promotes 
diversity in open source and open science. Our internships are for 
people who face under-representation, and discrimination or systemic 
bias in the technology industry of their country.

Feb. 26 at 4pm UTC ? Last day for mentoring organizations to sign up
Mar. 7 at 4pm UTC ? Last day for mentors to submit projects

Mar. 7 at 4pm UTC ? Contribution period opens
Apr. 15 at 4pm UTC ? Contribution period closes

Apr. 30 at 4pm UTC ? Interns announced
May 18 to Aug. 17, 2026 ? Internship period

Internship funding

--

Due to our financial situation, Outreachy cannot fund internships out of 
our reserve this round.

In order to run our program in the most basic way, Outreachy needs to 
receive donations of at least $8,000 to $10,000 USD per intern we 
accept. This breaks down to:

 ? ? $7,000 USD donation towards the Outreachy internship stipend
 ? ? $1,000 to $3,000 USD donation towards the Outreachy program 
activities fund, which covers some of the basic costs of running the 
Outreachy program, including all banking and other fees, and without 
which we couldn't run the internship program at all.

We ask that communities contribute beyond the minimum when possible, to 
ensure Outreachy can continue running. Please also connect us with

Outreachy is still seeing the impact of a dramatic reduction in 
sponsorships to both diversity and open source programs. We really need 
funding beyond internships to keep this program going.
